MANATEE AMATEUR RADIO CLUB, INC.

MINUTES Membership Business Meeting

April 1st 2008

The meeting was called to order by Geoff Haynes, N1GY, President, at 7:00 PM

We pledged allegiance to the flag

Introductions were held, those attending were counted and a quorum was established.

The minutes from the previous meetings were accepted as published on the web site www.manatee_arc.org.

The treasures report was given and accepted.

Bob Somerville gave a membership report. We now have 41 members.

Repeater report: Steve, KD4MBN was not at the meeting but Geoff said he used the repeater on the way to the meeting and it was working fine.

Geoff talked about having club shirts, he was looked at several vendors and showed the members the type shirt that the board decided on, the cost of the shirts was $24.38 for regular size, $26.12 for XL, and $29.60 for XXL. It will have an embroidered name, call and club name. The minimum order is 25 shirts and reorder is 6 shirts. He passed around a flyer showing a picture of the shirt and ask how many people would be interested, since we only had 12 members present we could not get to the 25 minimum but did get orders for 12. We will put some info on the web site before the next meeting.

May is the election meeting and we don’t have a slate. At the board meeting we will try to come up with a slate of officers to present to the club.

I brought up the fact that Morey Cortney KG4GFI called me from Georgia and ask if I could get some members of the club to take down some antennas at his fathers house here in Bradenton. His father, Dan Cortney passed away at the age of 97 after being a ham for 82 years; I told him we would do it. On a short notice no one at the meeting could go so Geoff and I took them down the next day. One antenna was a 2 meter ground plain and the other is a double bazooka, I put the 40 meter antenna up and it is 1 to 1 at the low end of 40 and about 2 to 1 at the top end. In addition we got 2 solar panels and a charger and some old batteries that need to be replaced. We could add them to the ARES trailer.

Jonelle brought up the fact that NI4CE is having a picnic for everyone that uses the NI4CE repeater on May 10th they are providing everything.

Field Day will be held at the Red Cross parking lot. The Bradenton Club will send a few folks over to participate and anyone that is a member of ARES and not a member of MARCI is also invited. Set up will start early Friday evening, on Saturday morning we will start set up at 10:00 AM. We don’t plan on running 24 hours but run late into Saturday night and start early Sunday morning.

May 3rd is a display at the Lakewood Red Cross we will be there with the ARES trailer.

Geoff gave a very nice talk on station layout; he covered many subjects pertaining to safety, efficiency, and ease of operation.

A motion was made to close the meeting.

The 50/50 drawing was held and won by yours truly, second time this year.

Respectively Submitted.
